Key Background
The Dubai Municipality was successful in the execution of a massive urban landscaping project valued at AED 190 million to make the city more sustainable, appealing, and livable. The project was executed in the first half of 2025 and is also part of Dubai’s efforts under the Green Dubai initiative and Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
The structure extended over more than 3 million square meters along major road junctions and city entry points like Sheikh Zayed Road from Abu Dhabi, Al Khail Road with Latifa bint Hamdan Street, and Tripoli Street with Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Street. They were picked strategically for optimum first impressions and general environmental appeal.
Sustainability formed a key area of concern for the campaign. IoT-based and technologically advanced underground irrigation systems were equipped with remote monitoring by Dubai Municipality. Water-saving and optimized plant maintenance, with the upkeep of all the greenery using the minimum volumes of water possible, has been facilitated through this.
Almost 300,000 trees and seedlings were planted in total, including some of the native UAE tree species such as ghaf, sidr, and neem, specially cultivated to suit the climate of U.A.E. These were accompanied by ground cover plants, flowers, and horticultural shrubs to ensure that the urban area was well balanced and aesthetically appealing.
The project is included in the Quality of Life Strategy 2033, which will propel well-being in the city via sustainable and people-centered policy. Dubai has 5.5 million trees cared for by the Municipality and public parks spanning 8.7 million square meters, making it a leader in green city urbanization globally. 216,500 were planted during 2024 at the rate of 600 per day—green cover increases of 234 to 391.5 hectares in total.
Dubai Municipality’s behavior shows a vision to combine urban planning with modern and green-oriented strategies that solidify the city as being a global city with a commitment to public health, innovation, and sustainability.
