Background-

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi opened the fifth Egypt Mining Forum in the New Capital. The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources hosts the event, backed by the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority (MRMIA).

This is the largest edition since the forum launched. It runs under the theme “Unlocking Egypt and the Arabian-Nubian Shield’s Exploration Potential.” Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi will address the opening ceremony, and heads of several global mining companies and organizations will give keynote speeches.

Investors from Egypt, the Arab world, and abroad are joining, along with mining ministers and officials from Arab and African countries. More than 100 companies will exhibit, and over 6,000 mining professionals, investors, operators, policymakers, and technology providers will attend.

Badawi said the forum shows investors want more of Egypt’s mining sector, and it lets the country present its opportunities to the world. Recent reforms under El-Sisi’s directives, he said, aim to make exploration and mining more attractive to investors. They also encourage factories that turn raw minerals into higher-value goods, which create jobs and boost exports.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly will lead a roundtable with top mining investors and companies during the forum. Participants will discuss investment openings, closer partnerships, and better coordination among government bodies.

MRMIA will also release results from its recent offer of exploration areas for gold, phosphate, talc, and kaolin under the open-sector system. The move aims to simplify how the government awards mining areas and get exploration started faster.
