Background-
Goanna Capital has opened its first international office at Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), deepening its commitment to the UAE as it links regional investors with leading private technology companies.
The Palm Beach-headquartered firm manages about $3.5 billion in assets. It set up the Abu Dhabi base with support from the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), and Hussain Al Alawi will lead the office as managing director and head of Middle East.
The move comes as Abu Dhabi builds its position as a global hub for artificial intelligence and frontier technologies. Goanna plans to build long-term ties with Gulf sovereign wealth funds, family offices and institutional investors, and to help international technology firms expand in the region.
ADIO backs the firm through its FinTech, Insurance, Digital and Alternative Assets cluster. Fatima Al Hamadi, head of the cluster, said Goanna’s arrival shows Abu Dhabi’s rising role as a global center for asset management and investment.
Founder Robert Hilmer said the firm holds a long-term commitment to Abu Dhabi and wants to partner with local stakeholders to help the UAE lead in frontier technology.
The opening coincides with Goanna’s inaugural Frontier Summit at the Four Seasons on Al Maryah Island. The invitation-only event will bring together around 200 founders, investors, sovereign wealth representatives and government leaders to discuss AI, robotics and space.
Goanna invests directly in growing private technology businesses and in secondary deals. Its portfolio exposure includes OpenAI, Anthropic, SpaceX, Databricks, Canva and Tamara.
