Background :
Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority (SPCFZA) has launched the Al Dhaid Logistics Complex, a major logistics and transportation project designed to improve supply chain efficiency, support trade growth and make the emirate’s position strong as a regional logistics hub.
The first phase of the project covers more than 16 million square feet and is designed to handle up to 1.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually. This expansion is part of a wider development program that features phases that are set to boost capacity in view of increased logistics and trade demands.
The complex is to be located in Al Dhaid and would function as a multimodal facility linking up seaports, border crossings, industries, logistic centers and future transportation systems. It is envisaged that the construction of such facilities will help boost cargo operations, increase supply chain resilience and facilitate the movement of goods through improved logistics channels.
The development of the complex is set to become a component of the Sajaa Logistic Complex and a vital part of the entire ports’ network of Sharjah, which includes Port Khalid, Hamriyah Port, Port Khorfakkan, and Kalba Port. The complex will allow companies to conduct business in a more efficient logistics environment, including transportation, warehousing, and distribution.
The complex will be linked to the UAE National Railway Network via Etihad Rail.
The project is equipped with modern infrastructure, including warehouses, cargo handling facilities, truck marshalling yards, inspection centres and advanced traffic management systems. Its dry port operations will be managed by Gulftainer, which will oversee cargo handling and logistics activities.
Officials said the complex will also strengthen trade links with Oman through the Integrated Logistics Corridor, improving cargo movement between ports, border crossings and distribution centres across the UAE, Oman and wider GCC markets.
