  • The partnership offers WestJet’s global connectivity with over 100 destinations in its fleet of 200 aircraft.

Key Background

Canada’s alternate- largest airline, WestJet, entered into an interline strategic cooperation with Saudi Arabia’s public carrier, Saudia. With the new agreement, guests can buy a single ticket from both airlines, which entitles them to fly on both airlines with coordinated check- in bags and baggage delivery and amicable check- in procedures. It’s a huge step towards further transnational connectivity for passengers traveling from the Middle East, Europe, and North America.

Trippers under this accord now enjoy the quick connectivity of flight to Jeddah on WestJet breakouts from Toronto and also to central Saudi metropolises like Jeddah and Riyadh on Saudia breakouts from central European gateway airfields like London Heathrow and Paris Charles de Gaulle. These connections are therefore accessibly made available, especially for those interested in Saudi Arabia’s fast- developing sightseer sector or making business connections in the country.

WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer John Weatherill stated this kind of alliance is another advantage of the international business for the airline. He told him, this project not only raises the reputation of WestJet but also Saudi Arabia’s travel connectivity with Canada. Saudia Chief Commercial Officer Arved von zur Muehlen had, however, stated that the accord will facilitate Saudi travelers to visit Canadian cities more conveniently and facilitate global travel transactions. The interline accord also facilitates operational benefit in terms of one-point check-in as well as through-checked baggage. The interline flights are booked on other third-party internet booking web pages and travel agencies, which is operationally efficient as well as customer-friendly.

With this new partnership, the international reputation of WestJet is boosted as it places Saudia on the world leadership pedestal of the carriers. The partnership can promote tourism, trade, and cultural interchange between Europe, Canada, and Saudi Arabia.
