Background :

The African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), together with the General Partner of the Africa Green Transition PPP Fund (AGTPF), has launched a new investment platform to support green infrastructure projects across Africa. The announcement was made during the Ministerial Segment of the Specialised Technical Committee on Trade, Industry and Minerals in Abidjan.

The Africa Green Transition PPP Fund aims to move infrastructure projects from the planning stage to construction by providing investment for renewable energy, power transmission, water-energy projects, industrial decarbonisation, and climate-resilient infrastructure. In its first phase, the fund is targeting €500 million in committed capital from public, private, and institutional investors.

The fund is designed to address one of Africa’s biggest challenges, where many infrastructure projects fail to progress because of limited financing after the planning stage. It will support major continental programmes, including Agenda 2063 and the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA), while encouraging long-term economic growth and energy security.

AUDA-NEPAD said the platform combines African leadership with international investment standards to attract global capital while keeping project development focused on the continent’s priorities.

Following its launch, the fund will seek support from governments, development finance institutions, and private investors to build a pipeline of investment-ready projects. Organisers expect the Africa Business Forum 2026 to serve as the next step in securing capital commitments.

The fund was launched alongside AUDA-NEPAD’s Programme for African Developing Island Economies, with island nations expected to become early beneficiaries through renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure projects.
