Background :

Egypt and Qatar have moved to deepen their diplomatic and economic ties, with trade between the two countries rising 80 per cent in 2025.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met in El Alamein, Egypt, and highlighted the progress made under their two governments.

Officials pointed to fresh investment as a key driver of the trade growth. Qatari Diar, a real estate firm, launched the first phase of a new project on August 9, 2026, while Qatar is also funding a sustainable aviation fuel plant in the Suez Canal Economic Zone. Abdelatty called the plant a sign of confidence in Egypt’s investment climate.

On security, both sides called for political and diplomatic solutions to ease tensions across the region, including a return to talks between the United States and Iran. They also stressed the need to protect navigation through the Strait of Hormuz under international law.

The two ministers additionally discussed a peace plan for Gaza, raised concerns over settler attacks in the West Bank, and voiced support for stability in Lebanon, Sudan and Somalia.

On labour cooperation, Egypt offered to supply skilled workers to Qatar and said both countries plan to launch an electronic system to match workers with jobs, strengthening ties between the two nations.
