Background

Jameel Motors, in partnership with Chinese automaker Changan, has officially opened its flagship showroom in Pretoria, the capital of South Africa. The launch marks a major step in the brand’s national expansion plan, following Jameel Motors’ market entry earlier in March this year.

The company secured the distribution agreement for Changan through a competitive process involving both local and international firms. The new showroom highlights Changan’s growing presence in Africa’s largest automotive market, where demand for vehicles continues to rise.

At the launch, Changan showed its newest vehicles designed for South African drivers. The lineup includes the Alsvin sedan, CS75 Pro SUV, Hunter Turbo Diesel, Hunter Range Extending Electric Vehicle, and Deepal S07 EV. By offering petrol, diesel, and new energy options, the brand wants to give customers more choice as the market moves toward sustainable mobility.

South Africa’s automotive industry remains the strongest on the continent. In the first half of 2025, vehicle sales increased by 14 percent compared to the same period last year, setting the stage for a return to pre-pandemic levels.

Marinus Venter, Country General Manager at Jameel Motors South Africa, said the launch “marks the start of a legacy” and shows confidence in the market and the Changan brand. Xiao Feng, General Manager of Changan Middle East and Africa, said he is excited about the partnership and the company’s long-term plans in the country.

The event was attended by government officials, industry executives, and members of the media. Changan, through Jameel Motors, is growing its presence and focusing on innovation and sustainability to reshape modern motoring in South Africa.
