Background-
Johnson Omolo has won a second term as president of the Africa Golf Confederation (AGC) without opposition. The Ugandan administrator now holds a mandate through 2030.
Delegates from 18 countries voted at the elective general assembly in Hammamet, Tunisia, held alongside the men’s African championship. Reports in Uganda’s press say 31 countries supported his bid overall, and the R&A has backed the outcome.
Omolo thanked the delegates and said the win belongs to all of Africa. He promised to push Pan-Africanism through golf and to put into action the cooperation agreement with the Arab Golf Federation. The deal covers technical, financial and development goals, including coach and referee exchanges, an intercontinental championship, and junior and women’s golf programmes.
The rest of the executive is also in place. Egypt’s Mohamed Anwar joined the committee by acclamation. Tunisian Golf Federation president Mohamed Aziz Fetni won the North Africa vice-presidency. Michael Aggrey kept the general secretary post, and Christopher Mulenga stays on as Southern Africa vice-president.
Tunisia hosted the men’s African championship for the first time, with 17 teams and 68 players.
Omolo spent nine years as deputy before he won the presidency. He has pledged to build a permanent, staffed secretariat and to encourage African governments to invest in courses and facilities that attract golf tourists. The AGC also protects its income base by enforcing membership fees. The terms of the Arab Golf Federation deal remain undisclosed.
